Directions to North Truro, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, by car.

From Logan Airport, East Boston, MA (113 miles, 2 3/4 hrs)

Follow directions to I-93 south. (I-93 is also known as the Southeast Expressway; because of the "Big Dig," directions change frequently.) You have to go through a tunnel ($3 toll) under Boston Harbor. There are two southbound tunnels, the Ted Williams and the Sumner. You should take the (old) Sumner tunnel. Cape Cod starts at the Cape Cod Canal opened in 1914 to provide a shortcut for ships sailing between Boston and New York. It is crossed by two automobile bridges (and one railroad bridge no longer used).

The Ted Williams tunnel (new) provides direct and quick access to the Massachusetts Turnpike I-90 going west. Unfortunately the connection to I-93 is not yet finished so you would have to go on a series of side roads after emerging from the tunnel. If you go through this tunnel by mistake, be sure to take the first exit after the tunnel and follow signs to I-93 (south); if you go too far, you will be unable to get back to I-93 easily.
Getting to the Cape - Follow signs to the Sumner tunnel. You will be on Rt. 1A (south) briefly after leaving the airport. After emerging from this tunnel follow signs for I-93 south. I haven't done this since the overhead expressway (which you used to take) has been torn down, so I don't know the route, but I understand it goes underground into the "Big Dig." When you are on I-93 going south, continue for about 10 miles to the Rt. 3 intersection for Cape Cod. Follow Rt. 3 for some 40 miles to the Sagamore Bridge rotary where Rt. 3 ends and Rt. 6 come in from the right. Continue straight ahead following Rt. 6 across the bridge over the Cape Cod Canal.

After you cross the Sagamore bridge - You are now on Cape Cod. Follow Rt. 6 (east towards Provincetown) for about 50 miles. (If you follow the map on the link at the top, ignore steps 18-23; just stay on Rt. 6 all the way to Truro.) The highway is a four-lane limited access highway all the way from Boston through several towns on the Cape to Dennis. Of course in the summer, there is considerable traffic especially near the bridge getting onto and off the Cape. On Friday and Sunday afternoons, 6 mile backups are not uncommon. After Dennis, Rt. 6 is two-lane limited access to the Orleans rotary. After the rotary, Rt. 6 is a fairly slow four-lane highway with crossroads and driveways through Eastham,  finally becoming two lanes through Wellfleet and Truro.

After you reach Truro - To go directly to our house continue through Truro for about 6 miles until you see an exit on your left to Shore Road, Rt. 6A. Take 6A about a half mile to the flashing light at the center of North Truro and continue straight for another half mile. You will pass Babe's on the right and the Prince of Whales/Terra Luna restaurant on the left. Windigo Lane is next on the left and we are at #10 Windigo Lane on the left. Our driveway is directly opposite the Slow Children sign on the right. If you want to go to the Outer Reach Motel stay on Rt. 6 (which now becomes four lane again). The Motel is on your right about 2 miles further on.

From T.F. Green Airport, Warwick, RI (121 mi. 2 3/4 hrs)

Getting to the Cape - You want to go north on I-95 to downtown Providence where I-195 splits off to the east. Follow signs from the airport to I-95 (north) along the Airport Connector Road. After 8 miles on I-95 in the city of Providence look for I-195 (east) to Cape Cod. Follow I-195 which ends at I-495. Continue east onto I-495 which ends immediately and becomes Rt. 25. (In a few miles Rt. 25 will continue across the Bourne bridge.)

You must now choose which bridge to use. I usually use the Bourne bridge as normally there is less traffic, but you are more likely to get lost as the route is less plainly marked.

For the Sagamore bridge, follow the signs for Rt. 6 (east towards Provincetown) and head north parallel to the canal on the west side. At the north end of the canal go right at the rotary and cross the Sagamore bridge (see above). Follow the directions "After you cross the Sagamore bridge" above to Truro.

For the Bourne bridge, continue straight on Rt. 25 across the bridge at the south end of the canal. You are now on Cape Cod. Go around the rotary three quarters of the way and head north parallel to the canal following Rt. 6A. When you can see the Sagamore bridge ahead turn right at the light (to Provincetown) on the Mid-Cape Connector, Rt. 6. You should now be on Rt. 6, not Rt. 6A. Follow the directions "After you cross the Sagamore bridge" above to Truro.

From the west (Albany, Chicago, Seattle, etc.) along I-90

In Westboro, MA, I-495 intersects I-90. Turn right and follow I-495 about 75 miles towards Cape Cod. (It eventually becomes Rt. 25.) Follow the route above at "You must now choose which bridge to use" the rest of the way.

From the south (New York, Washington, Miami, etc.) along I-95

Follow I-95 to Providence, RI, where I-195 splits off from I-95. Turn right and follow the route above the rest of the way.
